Troubleshooting

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Where can I find a copy of the game?
A: Even if SourceNext isn’t selling brand new copies anymore, this site won’t tell you where to download the game from. However, you can still find second-hand copies sometimes on Japanese Yahoo Auctions or eBay.

Q: Will you add other languages to the patch?
A: Due to how Dino Crisis 2 manages text for rooms, no plans for this.

Q: Is it normal that Windows 10 reports this as a high-power usage application?
A: Yes, it’s perfectly normal. These old games technically stagger one core of the CPU while looping constantly for Windows messages, but in reality their CPU usage is very low, even on processors with few cores.

Q: Does this patch support Windows XP?
A: No, for a number of technical and practical reasons. These patches are intended for Windows 7 and more recent versions, possibly Vista as well. Having Windows XP supported is just a hassle, plus you can always play the originals on that OS if you really must.

Q: How do I stretch the whole image to fill my screen?
A: You can’t, unless you use a stretch shader with Reshade. The patch is designed to keep a correct 4:3 aspect ratio and will never support stretched.

Q: I can’t find my config.ini. Where is it?
A: If you are running on Windows 10 and you installed the game to Program Files, chances are Windows is rerouting all write operations to a virtual folder. There is a feature in the patch that will attempt to prevent such scenario, but if it still fails either move the game somewhere else or run with admin rights.

Q: Can I play this on Linux?
A: According to previous reports from users on Dino Crisis (which uses similar code), Wine should be able to run Dino Crisis 2 just fine.

HOW TO INSTALL

  1. Extract the DLL in the same folder where your Dino2.exe is located.
  2. Make sure that you are using the SourceNext version and no compatibility modes are active (those are bad and will break the game).
  3. Boot the game as usual and, if you have the correct executable, you’re done! If you try using an unsupported executable you will get a message that tells you it’s not supported and nothing will be patched.

HOW TO BYPASS THE INSTALLER

  1. Open the disc and copy the following folders: Data, Movie, and Speech.
    • NOTE: If you have the game as an ISO, don’t mount it with Windows Explorer, use a dedicated program such as Daemon tools or Iso Buster.
  2. Grab a copy of UniversalExtractor.
  3. Copy from disc the following files: data1.cab, data2.cab, and data1.hdr.
  4. Drag data1.cab in UniversalExtractor and make it extract its contents.
  5. Your exe will be in data1\Program, copy it to the designed installation folder.
  6. Delete the cab and hdr files.

KNOWN ISSUES

  • The game map has slight glitches with cursor priority and the zoom feature can flash to black when accessing it.

As the current patch isn’t 100% tested there may be more bugs.
